No one likes fine lines, puffiness and dark circles under their eyes. So what you can you do to combat this? Is there a natural DIY under eye cream solution? Or are you stuck paying hundreds for the best eye balm you can find commercially?
The good news is that it’s quick, easy and affordable to make your own fantastic under eye balm. It definitely doesn’t have to break the budget to make your own effective under eye balm which has no chemical nasties.
The under eye area is especially sensitive so making your own DIY under eye wrinkle cream is a fantastic way to make sure you have full control over what you are putting in this area.
Below, I share my fabulous under eye balm recipe as well as talk about why you should want to make your own, what ingredients you should use and why and much more.
Let’s start!
What Is An Under Eye Balm?

An under eye balm is a balm or salve that you apply at night after any serum or facial oils. It should be extra moisturising and suitable for the fine, delicate area under the eye.
A great under eye balm can help this area avoid fine lines, wrinkles, puffiness and other under eye problems such as dry skin. Since this is a sensitive area, it should also avoid anything that could react negatively. This includes avoiding adding essential oils or scents to your under eye balm.
Why Make DIY Under Eye Cream?

There are many reasons I love making my under eye balm. Here are some. I think they may resonate with you as well.
You Can Ensure Its Natural And Chemical Free
The number one reason that I love making my own under eye balm is that I can ensure that it’s only filled with luscious and natural ingredients that are fantastic for such a sensitive and important area of skin.
It’s really hard to tell exactly what is in bought products and how bad the chemicals they contain are. Making it myself is the best way to be sure that what I am applying is the best.
You Can Save A Lot Of Money
It can feel a little crazy how much top rated under eye balms can cost. Hundreds of dollars for a small container is a lot!
Luckily, making your own is nowhere near as expensive and you really don’t have to spend much (or make a lot) for it to go a long way.
You Can Make It Super Moisturising
Making your own under eye balm means you have control of the ingredients so you can make it incredibly moisturising and full of nutrients and everything awesome.
It’s Quick, Simple And Fun
It’s surprisingly simple and quick to make your own under eye balm.
I find it quite fun as well! I take a lot of joy in making something so good and moisturising, and I’m sure you will too.
Ingredients For The Best Natural Eye Balm
One of the best things about this natural eye balm recipe is that you don’t need many ingredients. You also don’t have to use the ingredients I mention below and can really use any that suit your skin and give you results.
These ingredients are just great starting points that can really benefit your under eye area.
eBay and Amazon Australia are quick and easy places to buy ingredients and all the gear you need. Below, I direct you to the best place to buy each ingredient or you can click here to buy now on Amazon or here for eBay. This is how I buy all of these ingredients.
Shea Butter

Shea butter is made from the fat extracted from nuts on the shea tree. It’s a popular ingredient in skincare which can be great for your under eye area.
It contains antioxidants, fatty acids and vitamins. It’s smooth on the skin and helps soften, sooth and condition. It also has anti-inflammatory properties which can help with eye puffiness.
Shea butter, in this recipe, also helps keep the balm solid and forms a protective layer on your under eye area.

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is one of my favourite skincare ingredients. It’s so natural, nourishing and versatile. Add in how easy it is to find coconut oil and it’s a total win. You can use it for anywhere on the body or for your hair even.
It contains lauric acid which is an essential fatty acid. It’s great for your under eye area. It also contains proteins and vitamin E which help to heal and hydrate your skin. It’s helpful in repairing damaged skin.
Additionally, it helps the balm melt as it is applied to your under eye area.

Rosehip Oil

Rosehip oil is made from the fruit and seed of a rose plant. It contains beta-carotene which is fabulous for your skin. It is loaded with vitamins, minerals and essential fatty acids that make it healing, soothing and deeply moisturising on the skin.
It’s also known for rejuvenating mature skin and evening out the appearance of dark circles.
All of this makes it perfect for your under eye balm.

Beeswax

Beeswax, in this recipe, is primarily used to help solidify the balm. It makes it a great consistency for application.
However, it does have properties that also helps the under eye area. It is an emollient and a humectant, drawing moisture to your skin and then helping by sealing it in and forming a barrier on your under eye area.
It also helps sooth and calm your skin along with many other benefits such as helping with skin regeneration and is anti-inflammatory.
You can vary the amount of beeswax in this recipe to make your under eye balm either softer or harder. If you live in a hotter climate, it can help to add a little more beeswax if you are finding your balm too soft.
If you want to make an eye balm without beeswax or you’re looking for vegan homemade under eye balm recipes, you can switch beeswax to candelilla wax.

How To Make Your Own DIY Under Eye Cream For Dark Circles

Making your under eye balm couldn’t be easy. You basically just melt and combine your ingredients then pour them into a suitable container. Once it’s set, you’re set to go!
I recommend you weigh all your ingredients before you start and follow the recipe below exactly.
A double boiler is the easiest way to melt and combine your ingredients as pictured above.
You can click here to buy a double boiler on eBay.

Once it is melted and mixed, I recommend pouring it into aluminium jars to set. You can use any airtight container but I find these work very well for easy access and application, as well as to keep out the air so your new under eye balm lasts longer.
