Oats have the potential to moisturise, exfoliate, cleanse and protect your skin. They can also help to improve the skin’s complexion, reduce inflammation, redness and boost your collagen production.
Ground oats bind to your skin and form a protective barrier on the skin that helps to keep the moisture in your skin.
Oatmeal baths are a common practice to relieve the symptoms of psoriasis, eczema and chicken pox.
Honey

Honey is an awesome skin care ingredient, and there is increasing amounts of evidence to support this.
Honey is used in many skin care products such as lotions, lip ointments, balms and more. In many face scrub home remedies, you will often find honey in their recipes.
Honey has plenty of benefits to offer your skin. It holds antibacterial, antiseptic, antimicrobial and antioxidant qualities that can help those with acne prone skin and with oily skin.
Honey is also a humectant that helps to keep your skin well moisturised without being oily.
Honey holds a heap of vitamins and antioxidants that can help slow down the signs of ageing, prevent break outs and to prevent dry skin.
In this honey face scrub recipe, the honey works well to keep the ingredients together.
Jojoba Oil

Jojoba oil is a gentle oil that can be used on its own or as a carrier oil to combine with essential oils.
It has a heap of benefits to offer your skin.
Jojoba oil has antibacterial, anti-fungal, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. It is non comedogenic and hypoallergenic.
Lots of people choose to use jojoba oil in their natural skincare routines for these reasons. Other benefits jojoba oil has to offer include it being a preventative for dry skin, acne, soothing conditions like eczema and psoriasis and to speed up the healing of wounds.
If you don’t want to use jojoba oil in your homemade facial scrubs, you could switch this to olive oil, coconut oil, almond oil or sunflower oil. The choice is yours really!
Although note that if you want a DIY face scrub for blackheads or a DIY face scrub for combination skin, some of this oils can be comedogenic which won’t help your acne. Jojoba oil is especially a good choice if you fall into these categories.

Why Don’t We Use Sugar?
Sugar is not an ideal ingredient in your homemade exfoliating face scrub. Sugar is quite an abrasive ingredient in a face scrub. However, it can be great in a body scrub. If you want to try my body sugar scrub you can click here.
Sugar granules, whether plain white sugar or brown sugar, are too large for the delicate facial skin and therefore I do not recommend using it in a facial scrub.
The effects sugar scrubs can have on your face can be damaging from creating dryness, irritation, redness and small tears in your skin.
